This toy drive was started by Maia's big brother, Marcus, in 2015. He wanted to find a way to celebrate Maia's birthday each year and keep her memory alive. One of the things he always remembers about our hospital life is playing Bingo every Thursday. It was a time when all the kids, including siblings, gathered together in the hospital's Playroom for a game of Bingo, and every kid that participated won a toy! For patients like Maia who were unable to go down to the Playroom, they participated from their room as they watched the Bingo game on one of the hospital tv channels. Marcus not only looked forward to the game itself but he was eager to hang out with the patients. One boy in particular stood out to him. This boy had been a patient for over a year and every Thursday made it down to the Playroom in his hospital gown, dragging his IV pole alongside him. As tired and weak as this boy was, it didn't stop him from joining in on all the Bingo fun in the Playroom. Marcus realized how happy it made all the kids to receive a toy. It was something all the kids looked forward to, even more than he did, it seemed. These kids don't have the same opportunities as he has because they live in the hospital, and it makes him happy to see all the kids happy. So he started the Heart of Maia Toy Drive to make sure there are always toy prizes for all the kids! It's also perfect timing since most of the toys at the hospital are from the holiday toy drives and summer is when their supply starts to diminish. Unfortunately, Marcus also realized that many of these kids are not guaranteed a tomorrow and waiting for new toys during the holidays is not always an option for them...
that's why Marcus is so passionate about this toy drive.
Thank you for all your support!
Please remember the toys will go to kids in the hospital so they must be
